Documentary family photography packages

… I’m not your girl.

Those photos are stunning. Gorgeous. Perfection.
And I actually love them.

They are simply not what I do. Because me?

I want to romanticize your real life. You know, the one you live every day with your family. Where your actual memories happen. Inside your home, walking around your neighborhood, going to your favorite coffeeshop. This season, however wonderful or hard, busy or boring … it’s sacred because it’s yours. I want to give you photos of the memories you're actually making.

If you want to go take photos in a field during golden hour ...

She was warm, genuine, and laid back. She made my family and I so comfortable right away. We took some fun photos on a playground and my kids loved it. We will definitely work with her again!

Rachel was able to capture our 'real' family look, not just the 'posed and smile' shots.

WHAT I OFFER

This is pajamas to pajamas. I’m there from the time your little monkeys wake up until they go to sleep. Whatever you do on a normal Saturday, I’m HERE for it. Let's eat, wrestle, hike, explore, and relax. I'm an honorary family member for the day.

BEST DAY EVER

A 3-6 hour session, either in the morning or the afternoon, to capture some of your favorite daily routines. I encourage you to get out of the house to a favorite family location, but also spend some time doing your normal stuff at home.

BEST MORNING EVER

This is for the documentary-curious. It's an hour-long session where I still won't pose you most of the time, but we'll get the Christmas card photo for Grandma. You're not ready to spend the day with me, but you are picking up what I'm putting down.

The process

wondering how it all works?

I'll let you know what my pricing is for the kind of session you're after and we discuss some details. Expect some GIFS and some exclamation points. I'm just that kinda gal.

2. YOU HEAR BACK FROM ME

You tell me what you like about my work and what your best day ever looks like in this season of your life. I'll take it from there.

1. You fill out the contact form

If you say yes, I will be thrilled. This is my favorite work to do and I'm honored you want to have me. I'll do a happy dance and pick a date with you.

4. You say yes

Here's where you decide if this is worth it or not. No pressure, and no hard feelings. But ... pick me. Choose me. Love me.
(Grey's Anatomy, anyone?!)

3. The ball is in your court

I joke a lot, but I can't wait to show you your real memories. A few weeks after our session, you'll get a very special email. It's your photos. If I do my job well, they'll become your favorite piece of family history.

6. time for the mems

It's your time to shine! We'll spend some very quality time together during our session. I can't wait to win over your kids (and your grumpy husband).

5. Your best day ever

But me?

I’m literally allergic to awkward. That's why I do documentary family photography. So I don't have to tell you where to put your hands. We just hang!

Your comfort = the best photos possible.

You don’t have to trust me though. I get it; I need to earn that. But maybe you’ll trust these clients of mine?

(Psst: look down.)

Every photographer wants to tell you how comfortable they are going to make you feel.

Common
(and reasonable) Questions

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENS DURING A DOCUMENTARY FAMILY SESSION?

Honestly? As soon as I get there, your kids are going to be super aware of me. They may get very shy, or they might ham it up. But the beauty of a documentary session is that the rhythm of your natural life pulls them into their true selves. They eventually forget about me and just start hanging out. I always recommend that you invite me over for a time of day when you all usually hang out. And I def recommend doing activities that are not out of the ordinary. It's just you, living your life.

what if i have a messy house?

Ummm, don't we all? Seriously. Messy houses are the houses that children live in. Documentary photography isn't meant to look like a magazine, unless your house always looks that way. It's meant to show your real life. So if your house is a little messy, leave it that way! I won't photography the mess, just the moments.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Anything that doesn't perfectly match the rest of your family. Please, don't match. Everyone should wear something very comfortable. Something that makes you feel great, but isn't brand new. Kids never act themselves if they are wearing something they don't already love. (Us adults too!)
