the perfect chaos
is loud enough to be heard,
sweet enough to feel
the dresses cover
scraped knees and princess diapers
signs of fun and joy
kids giggle freely
and maybe they scream too
but they are themselves
My favorite kinds of families to photograph are the ones where the parents just let the kids be their weird, quirky, chaotic selves. And this was that exact kind of session. I got there and the twins were in their high chairs, PJs on, and hair as wild as can be. Their brother ran around, adorably, trying to get my attention. The first 30 minutes of the session were spent wrangling kids into clothing, playing with dolls, and wiping faces. It was the perfect kind of chaos.
We played in the backyard, picked some fresh veggies from the garden (can you believe?!), had some snacks, and then headed to their favorite park. The kids climbed, swung, sat in mud, scraped their knees, and carried their toys through it all. I’m sure to the kiddos it felt like an ordinary weekend day. But to me, all I saw was how much love and joy there was between all of them.
This session reminded me of how many interactions parents have in one day with their tiny kids. The “Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom” and “Daddy watch me, watch meeeeee” are constant. Sweet, but constant. And we as parents have a choice to engage or dismiss. Mom and Dad P engaged, wholeheartedly. It was a good and gentle encouragement to me to take the time to respond. Not in a “you only have 18 summers” sort of way, but more of a “they aren’t always going to want me around” sort of way. Thanks for the inspo, P Fam!
The P. Family booked me for a Best Morning Ever session, which was three hours that we spent at their home in Denver and then at a local park. If you’re interested in having your Best Day Ever photographed, check out my packages and then drop me a liiiiiiine. I would love to photograph your family!
