2016…The year of simplifying.

You guys! We almost made it! This is my very last blog post for 2016. And I’m so, so excited to tell you how this year went.

So, 2015 was the “Year of Yes!” Which was … exhausting. I did a lot of new things, tried a lot on for size. And learned what I love and what I don’t.

And this is how my goal for 2016 became “simplicity.” I wanted to narrow in, to focus on what I loved. And for the most part, I did. There were still a few curve balls in there, but I really found my space this year.

And not just in business. I spent the year simplifying my whole life. I bought a car that didn’t stress me out every time it snowed. I didn’t buy a single piece of clothing all year. I launched a new site to represent my work as a whole rather than in pieces. I stopped doing things that felt like obligations rather than productive. I learned a ton. About myself and about where this little business is headed.

Documentary family photography has my heart. Spending significant amounts of time with the families I photograph has proven over and over to create my best work. I’m going to talk about this more in the new year, but I fall in love with this type of work more and more every time I shoot this way.

A list of what 2016 brought for me:

1. Longer shoots and new packages.
2. More shoots for Eater Denver.
3. A few amazing, super intimate weddings.
4. Two trips overseas: Belize and Costa Rica.
5. Three more births! Hannah, Rachael, and Cassie.

There was so much to love about 2016. And so much to learn from. I can’t wait to see where 2017 takes me and if you are reading this, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for tagging along. I can’t believe how many of you have encouraged me and supported me. I’m leaving the year in awe and filled with gratitude. Hope you have the happiest holiday ever.
