Here, you'll find really cute photos of families, some links to my favorite things, and just some general musings about life.
One of my very favorite things about being a photographer is staying with families through seasons of life. I photographed the Nichols family twice last year: once for a maternity session, and again after little Mav was born.
Now, Maverick is a little roly-poly ball of smiles and I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since he arrived! I love watching kids grow and families change. It was so fun to go back to their home and see them in this new phase of life.
This post is 100% self-promotion.
I take it back. This is 75% self-promotion and 25% a reminder to past clients. Guys! Remember those little discount cards you got last year? You should use them. You got my digits … give me a call to book your discounted session!
So, if there is anything I know well, it’s myself. But you guys don’t want to read 7 things exclusively about me. But maybe you want to know what it’s like to hire me? Here’s what I know:
The best kind of shoot is one where the family comes to you with ideas. Kylie loves to bake and the kids like to help her in the kitchen, so they decided to make cookies as a family. When I walked into the kitchen and saw the supplies, I just knew we were going to have some fun.
Each child had a rolling pin from one of their grandmothers—I think kitchen utensils that last through generations are amazing tools to pass down. But the kids weren’t sentimental about it quite yet as I think the icing held most of their attention. I was so impressed by the way Peter and Kylie let them go to town.
One of my favorite things in life is to talk about being Mennonite. I like it because people don’t really understand it and because they always have the funniest questions about it. I also love it because it’s this entire culture that exists and so few people really know about. It’s a little sub-world and I feel like to have been a part of it growing up. So, what I know about Mennonites:
We’ve owned a home for a little over two years. I really don’t know that much about homeownership because, let’s be honest, if I were single, I would still be sharing a studio apartment in center city Philadelphia (it was much more posh than it sounds). I know that money disappears from our bank account on the first of every month and that there seems to be a lot more chores these days. And also …
At one point, I remember looking at Sherice right in the eye and saying, “You’re a warrior.” I’ve never meant anything like I meant that statement. She had been contracting for a few hours with minimal fuss. Saying, “Oh, this is a big one,” occasionally and sometimes looking at me and saying, “I’m so sorry you had to get up so early.” I laughed at her. But when the contractions picked up and her tiny little body started really showing the signs of pain, I couldn’t believe how strong she was.
These are my favorite kid-friendly restaurants in Denver. They have perfect menus and accommodations for your hellions and good-enough-to-be-worth-it food for you.
